Coming Out!

It's time I let you all into a secret!

I LIKE BROWN!

Now some of you will be gasping aloud and frantically reaching for the number of your therapist or psycho-analyst at the very mention of the 'B' word!

Well I'm secure enough in my skin to admit that I like brown.  It seems to sit v.well with my inner Granny, right along side my inner flower lovin' Hippy!  (I might be needing the number of a good therapist if I identify any more multiple personalities though!).

I was recently commissioned to make my Value Charm Quilt for a friend, and the remit was browns, teals and cream.

I found this cute charm pack online, called Late Bloomers and teamed it up with some Kona Cream.

I've managed to get the half square triangles made, but not yet trimmed.  Oh the trimming!

I might be needing porridge for breakfast in the morning before tackling this lot!

I've also cut up a 3rd vintage sheets quilt today, a birthday pressie for a friend, and got another bee block done.  But more on that another day.

For those of you not blowing hard into a brown paper bag in the corner of the room, I hope you've had a great day!

  1. Okay. *stands up and takes a deep breath* I like brown, too. I love that charm pack and can't wait to see the quilt top. There. I'm out of the closet and it feels good!

  2. HaHaHaHaHaHa!! I can hear Hadley hyperventilating from here! Wonder if she will still talk to you? And I bet the quilt looks gorgeous. Wonderful contrasts in it.

  4. These are lovely warming brown shades and I love that wee bit of teal mixed in with the reds too. Can't wait to see the whole lot put together. You are steaming along with the vintage sheets quilts - 3 in a week must be some kind of record!

  8. I have always liked brown too! Oh, not the sludgy, dirty brown that gives it a bad name, but those lovely clean, warm browns that sing autumn at you. There are reds, blues and yellows that do not sing for me, but I cannot condemn the whole range, same goes for brown!
And, in all fairness, even Hadley found some browns she didn't hate! Lets hear it for brown!

  10. The epitome of BAD brown!!! I would disown this friend pronto!
Yes there are plenty of good browns, but these are not them xxx

  11. LOL - I think peach is worse than brown. Although I'm sure when a lot of folk say they hate brown, batiks, peach etc what they really mean is they hate many of the traditional fabrics stocked in bricks and mortar quilt shops up and down the land. The kind of stuff that sort of looked cool in 1985 but has never really developed beyond that. I'm sure your quilt will look wonderful. I started a value quilt but never finished because I realised all trimming that was going to be involved and sort of ran out of steam!

  13. Oh my...apart from teal (one of my favourite colours) that commission would be my worst (fabric related!) nightmare! I still love you despite your admission but I'm off to surround myself with aqua/turquoise fabric in an attempt to recover from the shock of all that brown. If you're planning any more 'flooding' in an attempt to cure us could we have some advanced warning?!

  14. P.S. Congratulations on the commission, I'm sure it'll be lovely ;o)

  15. You know if you paired those lovely browns with aqua instead it would be much more lovely. It is good to work to the desires of the receiving party.

  18. These are lovely fabrics - not at all surprising you should like them, even if they are brown! ;)

  19. Ooh what mixed emotions the mention of brown has inspired in your comments. As for me ---- I LOVE BROWN. After orange and green it's my favourite. As you can see I like all the Autumn shades best and it'll soon be that time of year again :-)
