Little and Large!

This week I made 2 teeny pinwheel blocks (3" finished) for this pencil case present ...

And much larger 'disappearing 9 patch' units for a Siblings Together quilt....

Siblings Together Quilt - scrappy D9P

A lady in Southern Ireland very kindly donated some fabrics to Siblings Together so with a little added Kona Silver and a few more scraps of my own, I've made this so far!

Siblings Together Quilt - D9P

It's certainly bright and scrappy, but most definitely pink and girly!

It's been another gorgeous sunny day here today!

Hope you are enjoying some good weather wherever you are!

End of Term!

My kids finished school last Friday!  Yippee!

My Spring/summer programme of classes finished last Friday! (pics of finishes to come)

Bee Blessed finished yesterday for the summer!  Here are 2 pics from the day:

Bee Blessed Quilt for Siblings Together June13

This is 1 of 2 quilts we are donating to Siblings Together next month.  Based on the Funky Wrench block here, we have put together most of the donated blocks we received to make this wonderful quilt.  Isn't it a beauty!

And the Starflower quilt top is now finished:

Love how this one is shaping up!

And just because I don't have enough quilts of my own waiting to be quilted (?????), I thought I'd make another one!

D9P Quillow 001 (2)

This is a class sample for an Autumn Quillow class, based on the Disappearing 9 Patch block.  My original sample from previous classes is based on a scrappy block with sashing . ...

... but I wanted to offer folks a non-sashed, design alternative.  I will be updating the Quillow pattern in my Etsy shop soon with this additional design option.

So that brings my stockpile of quilts needing quilted up to 7 (with another one waiting in the wings!).

What am I like!!!

Causing Ripples!

I have fulfilled 2 January bee commitments so far this month!

Firstly, D9P in Field Study for Colette (Hipbees):

Hipbees block D9P Jan13

Colette didn't want traditional D9P, and gave us permission to go completely mad random!

Second, Diamond Ripples (known 'in house' as something else entirely!) for Hadley (Brit Bee):

P1000519

This is another one of Hadley's mahusive blocks (24") which was even more of a pleasure to make because she so kindly had all those horrible lovely little hsts pre-cut - no trimming required! Yippee!

I love the orange/pink and grey combo!

I've also made a start on Hector's House 2, which will be called 'Wee Brother's House'!

P1000522

At this stage, the jury is still out as to whether or not I wrestle with another elasticated pocket!

Hope you've had a relaxing Sunday!

Busy Blessed Bees!

I actually remembered to take pictures of our afternoon's creativity and productivity (thanks Janette for the prod!).

Here we all are working on a man quilt.

left to right: Marion, Janette, Ros, Tina, Sarah
Janette kindly precut lots of dark & light blue strips and made them up into Log Cabin kits, to put together with the red centres that Tina had pre-cut.  Although we were a few members down this round, we still flew through the sewing of these blocks and have nearly 20 blocks already sewn up!

And here is one of the finished log cabin quilts which is being donated to the mum of one of our group.  We hope it will come as a real blessing to her at this difficult time.

A few of our other quilts are now finished and ready to be donated too.

L-R: Pink Log Cabin Quilt (as seen in previous photo); Red/Green Log Cabin Quilt
L-R: Fun-shine Playmat; D9P Adult Quilt; Brown/Cream Log Cabin Quilt
Sorry about the washed out look on this last photo - the sun has actually been shining today!

The Blue Log Cabin Quilt is almost finished, so that will make 5 more ready to be handed over for donation to needy homes.

As mentioned above, the man quilt is coming on apace, and the modern sampler quilts are awaiting sashing fabric.

Thank you so much everyone for your donations of blocks and fabric, time and energy.  These quilts couldn't be made without the help and support of so many talented people.

If you would still like to donate any of the blocks we have been making to date, then they will be gratefully received, and tutorials are available here.  Next week I will post about  the new block we are introducing for March - it's going to be fun!

Scaffolding & Squares!

We have had the most beautiful weather the past few days!  It's definitely getting colder, but I love the delicious mix of cold air and clear, blue sky.

Sadly, the view outside my window at the moment isn't very beautiful!

Last week rain water starting coming in through the ceiling (we've had LOTS of rain lately!), so we had to call in our trusty builders to get to the root of the problem.  So that meant this week, I had children off school for half term, 3 classes, a birthday tea for my mum, 3 builders, lots of scaffolding & a dog going mental at the ladders and strange men invading her territory!

Not much work done then!

However, I did manage to get Hadley's Brit Bee (monster) block done:

I love the colours and design Hadley has chosen for her quilt - it's going to be a stunner!

And today was all about fun and blessings.

Not many pics to show you of our November gathering of Bee Blessed, but we did get our final cot quilt bound & labeled, a 2nd D9P lap quilt top completed ....

...binding & labels made and a baby mat progressed with the leftover blocks.  Well done ladies - we did good!

I promise to bring you more pictures when we next meet.

Thanks again to all my blogging friends for contributing D9P blocks so far.  I know there are still a few more to come in, and they will most certainly be used!

I will soon be posting the tutorial on our next block so watch this space.

Hope you all have a relaxing weekend!

A Bee-rilliant Afternoon!

Another gathering of Bee Blessed happened today!

We had enough blocks donated in time to make up this beauty:

We also beavered away on more D9P blocks from our scraps box (there are lots more incomplete ones too!):

Sorry about the rubbish pics!
And we are making a special quilt for a friend's husband who is seriously ill at the moment.  Instead of using white in the D9P we are using trusty Kona Ash:

We were also quilting & finishing off some of the cot quilts from last month & I'll bring you pics of those when they're all done.

And no Bee Blessed day would be complete without tea, homemade scones, brownies and lots of chat!

Some of the workforce!
So a very productive and enjoyable afternoon was had by all!

We will continue to work on D9P blocks for the next few weeks, and I can't wait to see the promised blocks  I know are still to come from several different parts of the world!

A huge thank you to everyone for being involved!

Thank you Bee Blessed Donators!

I'm overwhelmed (yet again!) by the generosity and thoughtfulness of my bloggy friends and followers.

This month's Bee Blessed blocks (D9P) are coming to me from all over the UK and beyond, lovely parcels for me to open.  And I can tell you that I feel blessed in receiving these and sharing them with the ladies who make up the Bee Blessed team.

Just look at this little lot!

Thank you Terri (Tester) and Helen for the beautiful blocks & fabrics I received from you today.  I've put them with the others I've received so far, and I know there are more to come!

Thank you all, and I hope I've remembered to thank you all personally (Terri can you email me again, I can't seem to find your email address).

Your support is so much appreciated and valued.  If you are new to my blog and would like more info on Bee Blessed or how to get involved, click here.

The physical Bee will be meeting on Saturday for lots more sewing (& chatting!) so I will have another update at the weekend.

Have a lovely day!

June Brit Bee Blocks

Just a quickie post to show you the blocks I made for Fiona (Miss June) in our monthly Brit Bee.

Fiona sent us all the loveliest Dream On fabrics and a delightfully easy block remit - disappearing 9 patch, which starts life looking like this:

And then gets chopped up and twizzled around to look like this:

Fiona's had nearly everyone's blocks back and you can see what they all look like here.
