There is hope!

Despite the horrific weather I battled with today, I came away from my sister's salon feeling positive!

Not only did I get a re-style (and of course those impetuous grey roots dyed into submission) but I also found out that 2 of my bags have sold!  Hooray!

And because all of the make-up pouches had previously sold I brought 5 more down with me plus 6 tissue pouches (see pics here).

Within 10 minutes of me setting them out, 4 tissue pouches sold and 1 of the new make-up pouches.  And so as not to completely deplete the stock before customers get a look in, my sister & one of her staff have also ordered about 6 more make-up pouches for teachers' Christmas presents!!

Looks like I need to order more zips then!!

I can't bear to write a post without a photo (?!) so I'll show you the quilt back for the 'man' quilt we are making in Bee Blessed.  I just love that Kona Ash, one of my favourite Kona colours!

All materials from River Fabrics.
Hope you've had a less wet & windy day than me!  I'm off to class tonight to see more wonderful creativity in the form of Advent Calendars!

Grey in Kona, not in roots!

Well I've just been down to my lovely sister's hair & beauty salon and done battle with the old grey roots (again!).

Kona Ash might be a very 'in' look at the moment for us quilters, but not when it comes to the roots of a 40 year old (who still thinks she's 20!).

I was also bringing down the bags that I've made thus far, to sell in the salon.

They don't look like much in these rubbish photos!
Thank you everyone for encouraging me through this, and the wonderful feedback about my bags.  I really don't like selling my wares, I'm way out of my comfort zone here, but the sales of these bags will help me financially, so I just have to get over myself!

I did manage to get another Modern Maud run up yesterday for the sale today, here she is:

I love the texture of the wool in this one!  V.touchy, feely!

Before I had left the salon, one of the wee cosmetics bags had sold, so that is encouraging!

I'll be down again in a month's time (to do battle with the grey roots again), and will hopefully have some stock to replace those that have sold!

Fingers crossed!

Introducing ...... 'Modern Maud'

I thought I'd delay the suspense no longer and show you what I've been working on the past few weeks.

I've decided to sell a few things in my sister's hair/beauty salon in the run up to Christmas.  First up is 'Modern Maud':

zippered inner pocket
Maud was the name of my Grandmother, whose cast iron treadle Singer got me started sewing as a child (I didn't use an electric machine until I was 30!).

So I thought it fitting to name a bag after her.  I made this pattern last year, but have added a few wee extras, like a zippered pocket in the blue cord version, reinforced handles & base.

I've used some IKEA fabrics in these new bags, as well as wadding & some recycled materials (you know me!).  These 2 bags are spacious and sturdy and would make great shopping or book bags.

Hope you like them, and more importantly, I hope they sell!

Next instalment of 'Introducing ...' tomorrow.  Have a wonderful start to your week.

Bags, Bags, Bags!

My recent handbag classes finished this week.

Wanna look at some truly gorgeous makes ..............?

Marion & Sarah (see more pics of Sarah's here)

For the next series of pics I need to let you know that there are 2 Heathers (so you don't think the same person had her own handbag production line)!!!  Let's call them Heather 1 and Heather 2!

Heather's (1) crazy patched swing bag, with adorable brooch.

(Sorry about the blurry pic) Angie & her gorgeous crazy patched swing bag.

  • From L - R:
  • Heather's (2) stunning crazy patched denim swing bag with inlays;
  • Heather's (1) crazy patched bag (as seen above);
  • Heather's (2) denim slouchy bag with stunning green lining (made from hubby's denim shirt!);
  • Angie's crazy patched swing bag, as seen above.
  • Recycling at its best!

 Aren't they stunning?  The bags aren't bad either!!

Well done girls!  Your talent & creativity inspires me and you have been such a joy to teach.

Enjoy your gorgeous new makes.
