Folksy Tea Cosy!

Sewing World asked me to make a Scandi inspired Tea Cosy for their October issue.

After much deliberation I broke with tradition and chose felt to best illustrate my design.

Folksy Tea Cosy

I used my trusty Essex Yarn Dyed Linen (Flax) for the background.  I think the rustic linen gives a lovely foundation for the tactile felt.

I bondawebbed the shapes down (took quite a bit of heat to adhere) and then had to decide on how to applique them.

I haven't free motion sketched on felt before so wasn't sure if my risky decision would pay off.  But I'm really pleased with the added texture it gives to the felt.

I hope you like my cute cosy, and my nod to all things Folksy!

(The October issue of Sewing World is in the shops now.)

Words Aptly Spoken

There's a Proverb in the Bible that has inspired me for most of my life:

"Words aptly spoken are like apples of gold in settings of silver."

I want to stay reminded of the power of words, how the right ones can be like giving someone the treasure of gold and silver.  And I've had many lovely words of encouragement spoken over me recently.

So as I thought of what to make a friend from church, who has greatly encouraged me, this proverb became my inspiration.

My trusty Irish linen was pulled out again, and for some reason I really wanted a square tree to house my golden apple!

Only Sisters Know!

It's my favourite sister's birthday next week (I only have 1 sister lol!).

She has requested a 'bag for life', which I will of course make her, but I was wanting to make her something a little less boring more creatively challenging!

My sister is 5 years my senior, and I grew up in awe of her, always wanting to be like her, have her wonderful clothes and confidence!

It wasn't until I was an adult that my sister told me she always wanted to be more like me!  Go figure!

So following on from the thoughtful little girl here, I sketched up a picture that only a sister would appreciate!

Those of you who have seen my sister will know that she is the blonde and I am the (ginger faking it as a) brunette!

It's really tricky photographing something with glass in front of it, so here are some pics without the frame (the inner frame is 11.5" x 8").

No, I'm not showing you a close up of that photo of us bottom right!
I'm still in awe of my sister.  She inspires me, encourages me and always makes me laugh! We are as opposite as chalk and cheese, and yet fit so well together, like peas and carrots!

Want to know what I wish I had of hers and she of mine?  Now, that would be telling! *wink*

A Super Quick Play Pouch!

There are several birthdays coming up in my family these next few weeks.

This afternoon, I made this play pouch for a young niece who loves the colour pink.

When I need a quick, easy project idea, I turn to free motion sketching! It's great for personalising gifts for kids!

It measures 10" x 12" so a great size for popping in a few books and pens - handy for car journeys!  I recycled a child's belt for the wrist strap.

I will be filling this pouch up with treats before posting it over to England.

Hope you are enjoying your week!
