No, the Hector's House I'm talking about is this one:
Some time ago I saw this gorgeous machine cover, and tucked it away in my inspiration filing cabinet!
I couldn't hold off making Hector (my daughter's sewing machine!) a cover any longer, and the gorgeous wee pack of mini charm squares I got from this very special lady, was just the prompting I needed.
I thoroughly enjoyed all the piecing and quilting:
And as you read yesterday, didn't enjoy making the side pocket AT ALL! Having said that, I'm really pleased with how it turned out, though stuffing the foot pedal into it makes an awful bulge! So I might just make a wee drawstring bag for the pedal instead!!
The technique for putting in a handle opening is the same for putting a zipper into the pocket of the lining of a handbag (only minus the zipper!).
And I lined it with a bright orange vintage sheet!
The binding on the bottom was attached as for quilt binding, except for the 2nd stage - I quilted in the ditch, rather than hand sewing it down underneath.
So there you have it! A happy Hector with his technicolour dreamcoat, and an even happier daughter!
Hector's House will be making his debut appearance at Bee Blessed tomorrow!
And I have enough cute charms leftover for another cover (one of my classroom machines, affectionately known as my 'wee Brother' is badly in need of a new cover!).
Hector will be warm and stylish in his new cover. You have done a brilliant job. I hope your daughter is happy with the end result. Di x
ReplyDeleteHi Judith! That cover became really beautiful! I'm happy that you finished the pocket, too! I have made similar cover without pocket. If someone needs tutorial for that handle-opening, welcome to see how I made it:

I love Hector's house - best not let my machine see this post: it might get jealous 'cos it doesn't have a name, let alone a house!
ReplyDeleteOh I love it - and the lining too! Skipping the bits that made you swear, that is one superb make.
ReplyDeletethis is absolutely gorgeous!! great work judith -- I definitely need to show my machine some love this year and make one..
ReplyDeleteHector is so lucky! I love it! the colors, the pocket ... that is nicer than the box coming with the sewing machine.
ReplyDeleteBrilliant - so much better than the machine cover I made for mine!
ReplyDeleteLove it - the bright colours look great against the neutral. Is it linen?
ReplyDeleteBrilliant. Love the orange spotty binding and love the vintage inside!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely gorgeous Judith.
ReplyDeleteOOo lovely! So much better than the cream plastic cover my workhorse has got! and that pocket looks fab, like butter wouldn't melt... :) x
ReplyDeleteLove it!
ReplyDeleteIt's beautiful!
ReplyDeleteFantastic - Hector is now one cool machine in his new cozzy! That wee pocket on the side will be so useful for lots of things even if it never sees a foot pedal! Hope Hector's Mistress is pleased!
ReplyDeleteFab wee house for Hector, and great use for those charms!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great make. I see it becoming a fashion piece wanting to be copied or maybe on the next In Stitches programme. Just Saying.
ReplyDeleteBrilliant! I used the same pattern for my machine cover :o)
ReplyDeleteHow cute!! I agree, I would not need a pedal pocket, per se. But the binding with stitch in the ditch...I'm never coordinated enough to do that without hand-finishing!! Good for you.
ReplyDeleteSadly, I am not too young :-( Still, your machine cover is gorgeous and beautifully made!!
ReplyDeleteIt turned out really well Judith, well done.
ReplyDeleteI really love this, it is a perfect sewing machine cover.
