July Bee Blocks

I go away on holiday next week, so I wanted to make sure I was on top of my July bee blocks!

First up - Sew Bee Happy.

Nicky is making an inspirational wallhanging for her sewing room and asked us to make improv word blocks from a list of words she had chosen.

I've done improv blocks before, but not lettering.  I thought it was going to take longer than it did, but this one was done in half an hour!!

I can't wait to see Nicky's finished wallhanging!

Next up - Brit Bee:

Fiona sent us out the most amazing wee pack of fabrics. She is making a low volume quilt with some of her most special fabrics. For example, some hand made lace, her Grandmother's table cloth, vintage sheets - and more wee bits and pieces that hold particular memories for her.

But within each low volume block, Fiona wanted mini hits of high volume traditional blocks, made with more modern, loud fabrics.

I went for churn dash and trusty log cabin.  It was a joy and a privilege Fi to work with your most special fabrics.  Thank you!

And finally, Modern Irish Bee:

This is the first month of MIB, and Sarah asked us to make one of my favourite modern blocks.

Mod Mosaic Block

The requirements were, 1 small block in low volume fabrics, 1 larger block in high volume fabrics.

I love the improv style piecing of this design by Elizabeth Haartman, and it's a great way to use up scraps.  I may even get my Brit bee ladies to do this for me when it's my turn to be queen bee!

So that's me up-to-date with my bee commitments.

Tomorrow I have an Adult/Child workshop, which is my last work-day before holidays!

We are all heading over to England next week for a family wedding, which I am still not kitted out for!  There have been several rounds of sickness through the house the past 2 weeks, which means I've got a little behind. Better get my skates on or at this rate I'll be going dressed like Sandy Shaw!

Happy Friday!

  1. Love love love your bee blocks. It's going to be so exciting being a hipBee with you. You could always shop when you get to England. I'm sure whoever lives nearest to where you're going can point you in the right direction of the best shops!

  2. All those blocks are fabulous. I have to start thinking what to do for Fi's block!

  3. Lovely. The only kit you'll need are nice wellies and a flowery brolly!

  4. Lovin' the love (and that wee bit of Nicey Jane). The rest are brilliant too - gorgeous wee special fabrics to work with in Fi's block and mosaics are always one of my faves too.

  5. Love the bee blocks especially the ones for Fi. Have a great holiday and remember over here you just need a rain mac and brolly. It won't matter what else you wear as it won't stop raining! Di x

  6. Really beautiful bee blocks babe :-)

  7. Looking good Judith! I have also made my blocks for the Modern Irish Bee, once I started I couldn't stop! Have a great holiday.

  8. Just bring a kagoul! I love all your blocks - you have such a wonderful way with fabric and colour!

  9. Fabulous block! Brollie, wellies, whatever you wear, you'll look as glam as always!

  10. Love all ur blocks.. Now I'm worried about hipbees!!

  11. Please forgive my ignorance- low volume? Are you meaning softer colours, or smaller pices? or lighter weight cotton?

I love your blocks, just feeling stupid!

  12. Fab blocks! I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with my hipbee block!!

  13. Those are beautiful blocks! I hope you have fun at the wedding.

  14. I am sure if anyone can, you can pull off the Sandy Shaw look Jude!

LOVE my love block! And I can't wait to see the hanging finished either! Can't believe they are so quick either! I find them addictive and almost wanted to make them all myself - greedy me!

Fiona's and Sarah's blocks are ace too!

  15. your bee blocks are awesome as usual!! love everyone of them and how special those first ones are. I hope you have a fab holiday and enjoy the wedding. I am sure you will look great no matter what you wear! x

  16. Well done all round. Sure if you don't get time to shop you can just don a bin bag, no-one will notice ;o)

  17. Gorgeous blocks! I'm hoping to get mine done this week, too!
