More Wonky Houses!

Agnes is our Queen bee this month in the Modern Irish Bee.

She sent us the most wonderfully bright fabrics to work with and wasn't fussy at all about what dimensions the blocks turned out!

I had no more of Agnes's solid blue left to finish the sky, so I've asked her to add another strip to the top.
We were also allowed to throw in a few of our own fabrics too, so I added some daisies and the bird in the first block, and a few more girly pink squares to the 2nd block.

There are some really funky and wonky houses popping up in the group - you can see them here.

You might be pleased to know that Martha now has 3 legs, albeit one of them wooden!

Now she stands upright in my sewing room, and frightens the life out of me everytime I turn round and think someone has crept up on me!  She's got a naughty side that one!

Pippi-licious!

Here it is ....

I love this quilt so far.  Mainly because it is a collaborative quilt, from all around the world.  But also because it is a Bee Blessed quilt, and will be going to a teenage girl struggling with M.E.

I'm going to call it 'A Wonky House for Pippi'!  It is fun, colourful, and tells a story, which all quilts should in my opinion.

I had 2 wonky house blocks leftover, so in true 'Nicky' style, I'm going to put them into the back of the quilt, to make the back as interesting as the front!

All I've done to them so far is add a border of colourful squares, to mirror the Pippi blocks on the front.

Now for the front, the big question is............. border or no border?

It is currently flaunting at a respectible 62" sqaure, I'm just not sure if putting binding straight onto it would look right.

What do you think?

Bee Blessed Progress

"How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world." Anne Frank

We had a wonderful afternoon of fun, chat and 'improving the world' sewing yesterday at Bee Blessed.

Ros modelling a man's shirt (don't ask)!!

It was really special having some new friends there (as well as some old ones too!).  With more interested folks wanting to join in our humble venture, we have now exceeded the space and hospitality of even the largest home, and so have decided to move our BB gatherings down to church (where I teach my classes).

This will give us more space to layout & baste quilts, and also to quilt them (you know how much space you need around you to quilt a quilt!).

We even end up on the floor!

We have been delighted with the Pippi and Wonky House blocks that have been made and donated. Thank you all!  Here they all are so far:

Just a few more Pippis and we're there.  I think this will make a very special quilt and will hopefully bless a young lady in a special way.

We have finished our log cabin man quilt, which will be making its way to a gentleman in need of some encouragement at the moment.

And if you are interested in knowing what May's block will be for Bee Blessed, then tune in tomorrow!

Thank you everyone for playing a very special part in these very special quilts.

A Wonky House for Pippi!

For some bizarre reason, I was up earlier than usual on Sunday (must have been the anticipation of heading to the coast later that morning!).

Anyways, I had a whole hour to fill before going to church, so I thought I'd have a crack at a wonky house for Bee Blessed.

It only took an hour to make!

This was even more fun to make than the Pippi block!

There are some lovely ones being released onto the market over on our flickr page!

If you fancy having a go and donating a block to Bee Blessed, here are the tutorials for the wonky house block:

Well, tonight marks the end of my Easter break.  We had a lovely few days away, watching lots of films (Jane Eyre, Real Steel, Hugo to name a few!) and eating way too much chocolate and rubbish!  It was relaxing and lovely (the sun even made an appearance, in between the hail showers!).

Being the 'home girl' that I am, it's always lovely to get back to my own home, and especially my own bed!!  I have to confess to replying to a few work related enquiries today, but that's what it's like being self-employed.

Tomorrow, I'm going shopping for a new pair of jeans (I live in jeans but I've ripped an unsightly hole in my regulars!) and then back into the sewing room!  Wish me luck!

I hope you've all had a lovely Easter break!

Wanted! Wonky Homes for Pippis

Don't you think March has hurtled through at an alarming rate?

With the end of one month comes the next block for Bee Blessed!

Thank you everyone for your cuter than cute Pippi blocks.  You can see most of them here.
Don't they look quite the dysfunctional perfect family!!

And yes, we even have a set of twins!

If you are still planning on making a Pippi block, there is still time - we will never turn away anyone from our Bee Blessed family!

We thought these Pippi blocks would look great in a quilt alongside some wonky houses, so this is what we are setting as the April Bee Blessed block.

There are several great tutorials out there already (thanks Nicky!), so I'm not going to reinvent the wheel on this one (and apologies for not having an example made for you to see)!

All we ask is that you keep the background/sky in white, and add a little bit of grass or ground at the bottom of the house.  As always, please square your block to 12.5".

The rest of the colour scheme and style of house is up to you!  Have fun with our April social housing project!

And I'll leave you with some pics of our progress from today's gathering of Bee Blessed:
