Modern Mauds

Handbag classes are always fun to teach, and the Modern Maud class finished on a high as we all got to enjoy each others completed (& nearly completed) bags!

Modern Maud Class Nov 13

What you can't see here are the clever zippered pockets in the linings, and the reinforced bases with cute little handbag feet!

I'm pleased to say that some of these will be going into the exhibition on Saturday!

Well done ladies!  And thank you for temporarily giving up your lovely bags!

The Modern Maud pattern is available here, and will be available to purchase on Saturday.

A Senior Modern Maud

A senior relative in my family has been using one of my bags for several years now.  It goes absolutely everywhere with her and it has seen better days!  The best kind of compliment a bag maker can have!

So I thought it was time to make her a new one!

My oh so reliable Modern Maud to the rescue!

Modern Maud for Glenda Dec12

This pattern was named after another senior member of my family, my Nanny, sadly not with us anymore.

I think these colours are to my relative's tastes and style.  She has also been one of my main 'suppliers' of vintage lace, buttons and remnants, so I'm 'giving' back some of her donated buttons!

There are 2 spacious pockets inside, one zippered with an easy to grab zipper pull.

And hopefully the feet & reinforced base will keep this bag sturdy as it gets dragged around used plenty!

So that's another Christmas pressie ticked off the list!

And if you wnat some Liberty lush in your stocking this year, check out this lovely giveaway!

(I may have more giveaway news here tomorrow - just saying!)

Modern Maud Class & Pattern

My Modern Maud pattern has been premiering in my Monday evening class these past few weeks.

Just take a look at these beauties:

What I forgot to take pictures of where the sophisticated zippered inner pockets!  The ladies did a fantastic job stylising their bags, which have the additional features of a reinforced base & feet and a magnetic closure tab.

And if you'd like to have a go at your very own 'Maud' the pattern is available to purchase from my Etsy shop.

I hope you've had a great start to the new week!

Modern Maud's Autumn Debut!

I'm always trying to strike the right balance of projects across my classes, and so I thought I'd give Modern Maud a wee go in my Monday evening class.

The basic construction of this bag is straightforward, but what I like about it is all the features you can add in to it.

As well as covering how to strengthen and stiffen your bag, I'll be teaching how to insert a zippered pocket into the lining ....

and how to attach 'feet' to the bottom of your bag:

This is a really sturdy shopper which could have endless uses.

If you live locally to me and are interested in this class, just drop me an email at justjudedesigns@hotmail.co.uk.

The class starts on 8th October.

Grey in Kona, not in roots!

Well I've just been down to my lovely sister's hair & beauty salon and done battle with the old grey roots (again!).

Kona Ash might be a very 'in' look at the moment for us quilters, but not when it comes to the roots of a 40 year old (who still thinks she's 20!).

I was also bringing down the bags that I've made thus far, to sell in the salon.

They don't look like much in these rubbish photos!
Thank you everyone for encouraging me through this, and the wonderful feedback about my bags.  I really don't like selling my wares, I'm way out of my comfort zone here, but the sales of these bags will help me financially, so I just have to get over myself!

I did manage to get another Modern Maud run up yesterday for the sale today, here she is:

I love the texture of the wool in this one!  V.touchy, feely!

Before I had left the salon, one of the wee cosmetics bags had sold, so that is encouraging!

I'll be down again in a month's time (to do battle with the grey roots again), and will hopefully have some stock to replace those that have sold!

Fingers crossed!

Introducing ...... 'Modern Maud'

I thought I'd delay the suspense no longer and show you what I've been working on the past few weeks.

I've decided to sell a few things in my sister's hair/beauty salon in the run up to Christmas.  First up is 'Modern Maud':

zippered inner pocket
Maud was the name of my Grandmother, whose cast iron treadle Singer got me started sewing as a child (I didn't use an electric machine until I was 30!).

So I thought it fitting to name a bag after her.  I made this pattern last year, but have added a few wee extras, like a zippered pocket in the blue cord version, reinforced handles & base.

I've used some IKEA fabrics in these new bags, as well as wadding & some recycled materials (you know me!).  These 2 bags are spacious and sturdy and would make great shopping or book bags.

Hope you like them, and more importantly, I hope they sell!

Next instalment of 'Introducing ...' tomorrow.  Have a wonderful start to your week.
