After a lovely weekend together in Derby, I left my firstborn there & came home alone!
This parenting lark doesn't get any easier you know!
I can't tell you how unbearably proud I am of her! Her courage, grace and determination, despite the nerves and steep learning curve.
I had secretly made her a wallhanging for her new room in Halls, which I produced from my suitcase when we arrived.

It goes perfectly in her pale blue room, as does her quilt, cushions and bunting which also 'had to be packed'!
So that's the first one to fly the nest! I sure hope it gets easier with no's.2 and 3!

Your mini quilt is a beautiful reminder of your love for her and matches her quilt too. We had no.s1 and 2 leave for separate cities (uni/college) within a week of each other early this year. It seems your mothering wings just spread further.....and look forward to having everyone together again when possible.

I am sure she will love her course and it will soon be December and she will be home for Christmas and catch up time. Mine are 42 and 38 and have been away from home for ever , it is lovely when they visit

ReplyDeleteLovely gifts - she is so lucky to have a room; I remember when my sister started at Derby we had to leave her to sleep on a science lab floor for a few nights as they had over booked people!

ReplyDeleteI made both my daughters quilts when they first went to uni... my eldest daughter is due to go back for her final year, and my youngest has just returned to uni for her second year. And sorry to say this, it doesn't get any easier - well, it did't for me... but I make them lots of crafty goodies to decorate their rooms to remind them of home :)

ReplyDeleteNope...doesn't get easier...(sorry to be the bearer of bad news) My eldest just started her 3rd year at Nottingham and I cried like a baby as she drove away in the car .. As a mother you worry...but it will be ok...besides with all that quilty goodness surrounding her she can't help but feel loved and cuddled. ((hugs))
ReplyDeleteI've just been catching up with your blog (very busy this end with new school year) and seen that your daughter has just started Uni. If it helps you any, I sobbed like a baby most of the way home, when I first left my Laura at Uni. When she was chosen, in her 2nd year, to do a Uni exchange programme for 6 months, in Chicago, I left her at Heathrow and then had THE most dangerous drive of my life home, literally BLINDED by tears......Oh the things they don't tell you in pre-natal classes!! I wish her every success and happiness in her new student life. My Laura has just graduated with a First, so all those tears (and her hard work!) were worth it!! xx
