My 18th birthday present to my lovely nephew is pieced, long arm quilted, bound and washed!
I made this quilt as part of the Stained Quilt QAL, hosted by my roomy and friend, Sarah.
Thank you Sarah for hosting such an awesome, detailed and well thought out QAL. You rock!
When the fabrics (It's a Boy Thing, by Michael Millar) arrived all the way from USA, they seemed very aqua/blue, and the quilt was quickly named Stained Blue.
But now, the quilt is predominantly grey. I love the Klona grey skinny sashing (thank you Fi!) and the snuggly soft grey flannel on the back.
So I think a new name is in order!
Now I don't know about you, but something about the words 'stained' and 'teenager' in the same sentence makes me feel a bit icky (if you're wondering where the 'Stained' came from in the first place, you need to ask Sarah!!).
I'm wracking my brains to come up with something arty, funky and cool, but so far, all I have is ...
BLUE SLATE
I would love to hear your suggestions (just as long as they are clean!). Birthday boy doesn't officially become a man until September, so I've loads of time to stew over it.
And if you want to be inspired, check out the other amazing 'Stained' quilts in the flickr group.
it is beautiful... I agree those two words frequently ARE in the samr sentence yuck! No suggestions for other sorry xx
ReplyDeleteIt's wonderful! I agree, it needs a name change ;o) I'm rubbish at thinking of names for quilts though (I think it's lack of practise - I rarely name mine!) so I'll have to go and find my thinking hat...
ReplyDeleteThe quilt is brilliant. But the only sad name I can think of is Night on the Tiles.
ReplyDeleteIt's def fifty shades of grey !
ReplyDeleteROFL Stained may be very appropriate for teenager but I can understand that you'd want to change it ;-) Looks really great Jude, love it :-)
ReplyDeleteI am saying nothing!
ReplyDeleteIt looks fantastic though x
This is stunning J. GIven the shapes in the piecing and the cool tones of the colour scheme and forgetting about stains (!), it looks like a quilt that should be called "Too cool to be square".
ReplyDeleteThis is just lovely and very 'manly'. I like the backing too. As for a name.... sorry no inspiration yet! Di x
ReplyDeleteSlated!
ReplyDeleteLooks great whatever you call it!
Something very calm about this, it is lovely. Feels vaguely Mackintosh. Does it need a name?
ReplyDeleteLooking fab :o) Sorry, got nothing on the name...
ReplyDeleteMy, the going ons in your mind girly! I dunno about a new name. What about Misty or something vague like that? Great job there Chicky.
ReplyDeleteIt looks fantastic and I think the name is perfect too
ReplyDeleteWow its fabulous....lucky nephew.....my birthdays sept :)
ReplyDeleteLol Karen xxxxx
So beautiful, Judith!! Love Nicky's suggestion of 'Slated' - totally goes both with colour and shape of the individual pieces!
ReplyDeleteI like Nicky's slated too. Whatever the name it looks great!
ReplyDeleteI love it, it is just wonderful. If I let go of the stained glass image, I see windows or floor plans or skyscrapers - maybe Skyline? Anyway I usually can count on you to name my quilts I am not good at that part at all much of the time.
