Beauty and The Beast!

A few weeks back I was offered an industrial Singer Sewing machine!

The Beast

She was originally a factory girl, retired long ago!

I call her 'The Beast'!

She weighs an absolute tonne (it took 3 men to carry her upstairs!) and sounds like a jumbo jet taking off (I hope the neighbours don't mind)!

The Beast

But boy can she sew, through super thick layers like denim!  And she's fast too, so I'd better keep my fingers well out of the way!

And the latest Brit Bee block I've been working on, was a complete Beast to make (!) but turns out is a Beauty for who I was making it for.

Brit Bee R4 Block for Fiona
30" x 15"

This block was designed by our Brit Bee Mama Laura Jane (who has just recently become a mama herself!!) and took a lot of patience, unpicking and even more patience! It is by far the most involved block we have made in Brit Bee so far and my attempt is perfectly imperfect!

Love these wee doggies!
I was making for Fiona, in her choice of colours, and I've had the thumbs up from Fi (phew!).

So it looks like my 'beasts' have inner beauty after all!!

  3. What an intricate block, how is your bee working this year, are you each designing a different block but all making the same one in different colour choices? (gathering ideas for the Stingies)

  4. I love your block for Fiona! (It's a very complex block, are you sure Laura Jane likes you all?! *wink*)

P.S. Love your new beast! When I want to stitch through denim I use 'the old machine' - a Brother which was Mam's 21st birthday present. I can barely lift it onto the table, but it sews through four/five layers of denim as easily as it sews through two layers of cotton! I'd love to have it at my house, but I'm not sure my car would like having it in the boot as it went over all the speed bumps between the houses...

  6. Great block. I can see that it took a lot of work, at least it will be very much appreciated. The Singer looks fab, how wonderful to have something that will do anything heavy duty so there is no worrying about lots of layers etc. Happy sewing. x

  7. Are you sure your floor is strong enough to hold her? She's awesome, and if she tackles layers of denim for you she must be good. I love all the brights in that block, Fiona's a lucky lady
