Play it Again, Sam!

My daughter's flute comes in a hard case, with no handles or straps, which can make its journey to & through school accident prone eventful!

So before 2011 closed its eyes for good, I got this WIP finished:

Bethany really wanted a shoulder strap for transporting this to school, so I added some D-rings on each end, and sewed in a custom made strap.

Being someone who likes to recycle things, I had a red belt (from somewhere) that I thought would make good handles.  However they didn't say the nicest things on them ............

......... and Bethany agreed that they were unsuitable for an angelic 10 year old to have on her lovely new flute case!

Now that she has given the finished case her seal of approval (bless her she was so chuffed with it, teary eye!) she can't wait to show her music teacher in the new year, but I've warned her that the tune on the front is completely random, so he needn't bother trying to work it out!

I'm afraid I don't know my crotchets from my quavers!

Crisp, anyone?

  3. How fantastic is that??? It does bring back memories for me of days in the school orchestra years ago..... and the awful sounds we used to make!! x

  4. You may not know your crochets from your quavers but you sure know how to sew! Bethany will be the envy of all her friends. I think you might generate some commissions! Di xo

  6. It is fantastic! What a great solution to a rather bizarre problem...(a case without a handle...what's up with that!) :o) Great use of recycled materials too...you rock! ;o)

  8. That is just the best thing I have seen this year!! Fabulous. I imagine your daughter will come home from school with orders........
You will have thought of this probably but try using the red belt as the "filling" for a new strap, it will give a nice firm finish.

  9. Funky, I love it. I played piano, have you got a design for a carry case for that yet?

  10. Fabulous! This is so lovely. You're right that the belts are a bit inappropriate for a 10 year old. I have a very nearly 15 year old who would love them. I'll be keeping my eyes open for something similar :-)

  11. Adore this - such a smart and fun idea. I would imitate you but don't think I could manage a trombone sized bag for my musical offspring! Like the new funky siggy too!

  12. Fab idea, and hey, you got the legs on the notes pointing the right way, so it's all good :oD

  13. What a gorgeous bag!! Flute cases are a funny wee shape (my clarinet at least was in a briefcase with a handle) but you've solved the problem in a most elegant manner!

  14. Judith this is so gorgeous!! I bet all her friends will be wanting one! The notes look so cool. You have to do something (not for a child!) with that belt, it's awesome!!

  25. Judith - I love this bag you made for your daughter's flute. I would like to make something similar for my foldable music stand. Can you tell me if you just used batting between the gray felt (?) and the lining?
