I have an eclectic taste in fabrics and styles, which is perhaps why this journal cover just didn't feel like me!
This is a birthday present for my daughter's 14 year old, purple loving, friend. I tried to go for a more grown up, less scrappy look, teaming the purples with some delicious soft grey Irish linen.
But it just looks too naked!! I had to quilt on some lines on the front and back, and even auditioned other buttons to glam it up, but I resisted and stuck with elegant simplicity!
I really like it now that I've sat with it for a while (& the birthday girl loved it too!). But I don't think I'll become a minimalist any time soon!
It is lovely, but you are right, it is not really you even though it is purple.
ReplyDeleteIt is lovely, understated and elegant- it is good to step out of your groove occasionally, and get such a great result- now you can happily hop back to your own style for a bit!
ReplyDeleteFab button there!
Judith, this is beautiful and bery elegant and grown up! I guess we are not, because we like more scrappy style. It's also more fun to make something where we can mix lots of colours etc. Sometimes I think it's good to try to make something which is 'not us' but usually then I'm not happy with the result. Happy Sunday to you! x Teje
ReplyDeleteI love it as is Judith, sometimes you just need to know when to stop! It's hard to resist that perfect button or that lovely FMQ I could do just there on the right! ha ha ha. An old art teacher of mine used to say out loud 'step away from the painting!'
ReplyDeleteI love it! I like the minimalistic style as my bag is always filled with kids stuff!
ReplyDeleteI think it turned out perfectly, sometimes less is more, unless it's cake!!
ReplyDeleteIt looks fantastic. Its so hard doing something that really isn't you I think
ReplyDeleteIts beautiful! I think its great you can make something so perfectly suited to someone else, even if its not You :)
ReplyDeleteFunny isn't it how we all have our own sewing style! It is a lovely journal cover but not a 'Jude' one. Nice make though. Di x
ReplyDeleteLol, I have that problem with bags, gotta add loads!
ReplyDeleteIt's beautiful and a perfect example of when to stop adding stuff...one I've never learnt ;o)
ReplyDeleteI really like this one. But I know it's more fun being creative when it feels more like 'you'. The recipient liked it and that's what counts with a gift.
ReplyDeleteIts lovely, you've done minimalist very well!
ReplyDeleteYou and me both! But you did a brilliant job so maybe there is an inner minimalist in you after all. ;-)
ReplyDeleteMinimalist is hard but you did a great job :)
ReplyDeleteIts beautiful! Where did you get the linen, love it!
ReplyDeleteIt's gorgeous! Purple is such a great but unused colour.
