So I've got my Surfer Dude quilt top finished, according to this tute.
Only problem is, my nephew is at least 6' 2", and this quilt will just about cover his ankles!!
So I'm thinking, border, leftover scraps, etc. to eek it out a bit bigger without having to buy more fabric (haven't a clue yet what's going on the back or for the binding).
Need to get the old squared paper and pencil out again to do a bit of maths (groan!!!!!!!!!)
Just as I was going outside this morning to take pics of the quilt, this poor wee sorry sight met me in the patio:

We take a lot of pleasure from the birds that visit our garden, my youngest daughter in particular. We even have some nesting in our boxes this year. We are just hoping this isn't the pregnant female we've been watching getting the box ready for her new family. So sad.
Poor birdy, but the quilt looks lovely!
ReplyDeleteQuilt looks great, even the shape of the block looks like a surf board!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great quilt top! I really like this colour combination.
ReplyDeleteHe'll love that quilt! It's gnarly dude! :o) Well Done!
ReplyDeleteLove the quilt - such a different colour combination - but really does fit in with the surf theme. And yes poor birdie :-(
ReplyDeleteDude, nightmare on the length thing - chunk more white top and bottom?!
ReplyDeleteSorry about the birdie
awww Jude, mangled burdie? Poor wee thing. Its funny how quilt sizes come across, I'd never have guessed that one is only 4" narrower than its length. Good luck with the extending!!
ReplyDeletePoor bird :( but great quilt! Surf's up, lets hang 5 on the..something or other!
ReplyDeletePoor bird! great quilt though!
ReplyDeleteIt is a great quilt and some borders should make it a better size. So sorry about the bird, they are so fun to watch in the garden.
ReplyDeleteHappy post till the end awww!
ReplyDeleteGreat quilt and good to know I`m not the only one who fails to plan the binding and backing at the sketching stage LOL. Sad about the birdy - we used to come across baby birds who had fallen out of the nest - so sad.
ReplyDeletePoor bird. Gruesome photo! Like the quilt pattern (I have a copy printed out for my mental 'would like to make' list). If your nephew is really tall you might need another couple of rows! Bet you didn't want to read that!!! Di xo
ReplyDeleteLovely quilt!! Poor birdie...
ReplyDeletePoor birdie! Could you take a picture a bit closer next time!
ReplyDeleteI'd pull out that trusty denim for the backing - if this is going to be chucked in the car and taken down the beach it will be a hard-wearing and manly!
Poor thing!! But the quilt is awesome! Judith L-F
ReplyDeleteawesome quilt!!! love the colours and pattern very cool indeed. Poor little birdy :( I love birds but we can't encourage them with feeders etc because we have pesky cats!

Judith, is that a tit? I love the birds over there. Your robins are different than ours. I used to have 2 Brit bird mugs (one with a robin) but sadly they both broke over time-- and they were my faves. The birds have been singing and getting ready for nesting around here, too. Your nephew's quilt looks awesome! I'm sure you'll come up with a great border to coordinate. Sorry about having to do the math! (It keeps our minds from rusting). He will love it!
ReplyDeleteOh no, sad little birdie! Poor little gal.
ReplyDeleteArgh short quilt. ARGH! The first 2/3 of it is gorgeous :) The fabrics are great - esp for a man quilt.
Poor birdie! :(
ReplyDeleteLove the colours in the quilt. Very manly.
